Here at Calon we are always looking for ways to expand our product range to respond to customer needs and trends in the market. A Vegan diet has become more popular than ever, especially with the rise of ‘Veganary’.
This is a subject particularly close to my heart as my father, who was diagnosed with advanced Prostate Cancer a year ago, has been forced to change his whole lifestyle and diet in the hope of fighting the disease in a holistic way.
As well as conventional treatment he now regularly eats a selection of Vegan meals I prepare for him (all consisting of turmeric – a wonderful thing!). Although Dad can never be cured, he is in less pain, has lost weight (he needed to!) and feels fitter and healthier than he has in a long time. A lot of this is down to his determination and Positive Mental Attitude - I'm very proud.
Dad loves a cake and has been missing these so this was a great opportunity to respond to customer demand and keep him happy at the same time.
It did take a while to develop new recipes that I was happy with. I love experimenting with different ingredient substitutions and combinations (and tasting them too obviously). What is great about our new range is that they can also be converted to Gluten Free too.
